>> Grain Belt Brewhouse
RSP Architects’ Headquarters - Minneapolis, MN
Since it first opened in 1891, the Grain Belt Brewery has been a treasured landmark for the neighborhoods of Northeast Minneapolis, providing an awe-inspiring, vital connection to the City’s industrial past along the Mississippi River.
Working with developer Ryan Companies US and the City of Minneapolis, we designed the renovation and adaptive reuse of the historic Brewhouse for use as our Minneapolis office and studios. Now home to nearly 200 RSP employees, our design preserved the rare mix of neoclassical architectural styles that helped place this unique industrial property on the National Register of Historic Places.
The atrium stairway once used to reach the tanks at the top of a gravity-based brewing system, now provides circulation between work spaces, lobbies, conference and support areas.
Completed in 2002, the project has been recognized with an “Honor Award” from the American Institute of Architects-Minnesota, and the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota.
