>> Ecology Building

The University of Minnesota - St. Paul, Minnesota

Designed as the home of the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior, we planned the Ecology Building to promote interaction among faculty and students and to provide the flexibility to accommodate changing research needs.

The large laboratories feature an open floor plan that allows faculty research groups to work in contiguous space to foster collegiality and casual interaction. Comfortable offices for students and faculty are arranged in strategic clusters with hallway alcoves provided for small gatherings and meetings. Greenhouses have digital controls operating wall and ridge vents, swamp coolers, heating systems, and HID supplemental lighting.

Completed in 1993, the Ecology Building contains 101,000 gsf on six levels.

The most important accolade this project has received is found on the College of Biological Sciences’ website: “Faculty and students agree: the Ecology Building is truly excellent habitat.”
